How to take care of your External Hard Disk

Disclaimer: These activities were done by a careless person. Please do not attempt this at home, loss of valuable property is possible.

The excitement that overcame me when I finally got my External Hard disk in my hands cannot be put into words. Yes, I could finally afford electronic upgrades by myself without asking help form anyone.

One whole Terra-Byte for moi! The plan was to back up all my 500GB worth of crap and delete everything from my Laptop so applications would work faster and better. But I cut the transition down to bits so the movement would be gradual.

But so far all I used my Ex HD for was to ferry the tons of series I download while at work and watch at home on my laptop. My Ex HD was my virtual La La Land of no end. It came with a hard case that I was proud of and even buffered with papers for extra padding.

Disaster struck.
I know I should not have been moving around with my naked Ex HD still attached to my Laptop. It was a stupid move. I got up from the couch in the sitting room to go to my bedroom when it slipped and fell off the edge of my laptop. In a split second I hoped that the HD would stay on the USB cable it was attached to, even if the USB connector got damaged permanently I didn't care. In slow motion I watched the HD leave the cable and fall about a foot to the ground. It was the sickest sound, close to stepping on a Mac and hearing a crack.

I almost let out a scream. The words: 'my baby, my egg' played through my head. But I was careless not securing it. I just didn't want to detach it and reattach it again, putting in the unlock password. I was lazy.

Laziness paid off, my HD clicked feebly 3 times when plugged in and my laptop wouldn't recognize it. I felt like the fingers of death had touched my HD and sucked the life out of it. Why? Why?

Frantic googling told me that all was not well and would never be well with my Ex HD again. And I only had it for a month.

*sob*

Hope? I will be sending it to my brother to see if Andromeda (That's her name) can be saved. I don't want whats inside, I just want her to work again. And I promise to get a hard skin that she'll wear as a sleeve forever and I'll always keep her safe and I'll put her first before moving my Laptop around.
